The Psychologist’s Role in the Context of the Pandemic COVID-19
Abstract
The present study investigates how Brazilian clinical psychologists adapted their professional practices during the COVID-19 pandemic. A mixed-methods, exploratory, and descriptive design was employed with 121 participants to explore their experiences, challenges, and strategies of professional reinvention. Data were collected through an online structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics combined with categorical content analysis. The findings reveal a significant shift toward online psychological services, an increased demand for therapy, and the emergence of new clinical configurations. These results indicate that the pandemic accelerated digital transformation in clinical psychology and redefined the symbolic and relational dimensions of therapeutic practice. The study highlights the importance of professional training in telepsychology and points to the consolidation of virtual care as a legitimate and lasting component of psychological work in the post-pandemic context.
