Time Perception and Health: The Influence of Balanced Time Perspective Profile (BTP) and the Negative Time Perspective Profile (NTP) on Physical and Mental Health

Abstract
Time estimation and time perspective have shown relevance for understanding psychological aspects of health and disease. The Zimbardo's time perspective theory indicates 5 dimensions of time perspective to better health and well-being. The aim of this study is to evaluate if a balanced profile is associated with better health indicators. Using quasi-experimental design, 84 participants are evaluated and grouped by temporal profile, balanced (BTP) or negative (NTP). After one week, health questionnaires and time estimation tests are applied. Correlational and ANOVA analyses show that BTP profile and NTP profile affect the health of people. These results are discussed in terms of utility of time perspective in prevention and treatment of physical and mental health problems.
