Navigating Uncertainty: The Interplay Between Test Anxiety And Ambiguity Tolerance In Adolescents
Abstract
This study explores the relationship between test anxiety and tolerance for ambiguity among high school students in Kerala. A total of 548 students participated in the study, and data were collected using the Test Anxiety Inventory (Spielberger, 1980) and the Tolerance for Ambiguity Inventory (Musthafa & Bisini, 2012). Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses were conducted to examine levels of test anxiety and ambiguity tolerance, as well as their interrelationship. The results revealed a significant negative correlation between test anxiety and tolerance for ambiguity, suggesting that students who exhibit higher levels of test anxiety tend to have lower tolerance for ambiguous situations. Findings underscore the need for educational interventions that foster emotional resilience and ambiguity tolerance in school settings. The study has implications for classroom practices, guidance programs, and future research on student psychological readiness for academic challenges.
