Effect of circuit training on selected Physical fitness Components among College students


Abstract
The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of a structured circuit training programme on selected physical fitness components among college students of SN College, Varkala, Thiruvananthapuram District, Kerala. Thirty male college students aged between 18 and 22 years were selected as subjects and randomly divided into two equal groups: an experimental group (n = 15) and a control group (n = 15). The experimental group underwent a structured circuit training programme for a period of eight weeks, five days per week, while the control group continued with their regular daily activities without any specialized training. Selected physical fitness components such as muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and speed were assessed using standardized physical fitness tests before and after the training period. The collected data were analyzed using paired and independent t-tests at a 0.05 level of significance. The results of the study revealed significant improvements in all selected physical fitness components in the experimental group, whereas no significant changes were observed in the control group. The findings of the study indicate that circuit training is an effective, time efficient, and comprehensive training method for improving overall physical fitness among college students. The study recommends the inclusion of circuit training programmes in college physical education curricula to enhance students’ health and fitness levels.
