PARENTING MODELS IN PARENTS OF CHILDREN DIAGNOSED WITH ADHD: AN EXPLORATORY STUDY WITH PARENTS. PARENTING STYLES ON CHILDREN WITH ADHD


Abstract
Introduction: Attention Deficit Disorder with Hyperactivity has been associated with multiple difficulties related to child rearing, this difficulties suppose significant barriers in parents-child relations Objective: To identify the influence of parenting styles practiced by their parents on ADHD symptoms in children. Methods: Quantitative study with 28 parents with children diagnosed with ADHD. Results: It was found that attachment bonds provide a statistically significant influence on children ADHD symptoms. Discussion and conclusions: Parenting is a complex process, so that ADHD symptoms influence communication, shared time and affection expression of parents. This highlights the importance of an appropiate treatment for parents as part of a comprehensive treatment of ADHD in order to reduce de impact on family life.
